if your stomach’s sensitive because of anxiety, by all means spread out the food you eat over the course of the day instead of having large meals, just don’t…not eat.  you will go into hypoglycemic shock and that will suck.

toastyhat

By the way, symptoms include:

  • Shakiness.
  • Nervousness or anxiety.
  • Sweating, chills and clamminess.
  • Irritability or impatience.
  • Confusion, including delirium.
  • Rapid/fast heartbeat.
  • Lightheadedness or dizziness.
  • Hunger and nausea.

(because of the nausea, eating might not feel like the thing to do at first.  I’d suggest drinking a coke or something.)

I’ve dealt with sugar crashes before and I’ve collapsed and whited out.  I’ve had friends do it too.  If you think you’re going into hypoglycemic shock, and if there’s anyone else near by, tell them you think it’s happening, even if you’re not prone or it’s never happened before.  If your’e alone, make your way slowly to the kitchen/wherever you have food/drinks.  The standard rule is to take in 15 oz of a sugary drink (orange juice and soda–not diet–are the best) and wait 15 minutes to see if it’s over, then keep doing that until your sugar is stabilized.  Then you can eat.  If you think you’re about to collapse, especially if you start to feel dizzy, sit down and lay down or lean against something.  Don’t risk injury, it’s better to pass out while you’re laying down than it is to collapse and hurt yourself.

If you are having trouble eating please keep in mind the BRATY diet.  Bananas, Rice, Apple sauce, Toast, and (sometimes) Yogurt. These foods have been shown to be harder to throw up. By no means should this be the primary diet, but this can assist in the between times when it’s harder to keep things down.

this was really helpful

eolithandbone

As someone who has a super nervous stomach this is super useful!!

vaylinns

This is all also extremely good advice in preventing/coping with stomach ulcers FYI

pinkwitchpunk

also when your sugar is crashing eating pure sugar (candy/soda/etc) with no real substance is only a quick fix, and you need to eat a hardier food (the BRATY stuff is good, I also like to eat a spoonful of peanut butter to help stabilize) to keep it up.

I have, uh, on occasion, ended up throwing up and all but passing out because I ate something sugary when my blood sugar crashed and forgot to eat something better, causing a second crash like an hour later

Am I the only one that’s a just a tiny bit pissed off that this is still an issue?

The Original Series wasn’t even in the general VICINITY of fucking around yo

ameliacgormley

How many shows these days would do this, and do it this way? These days, it would be all, “Ohh, we have to be sensitive and show the nuances of each side” and try not to make either side seem wrong. It wouldn’t be clearly spelled out, “pro-choice is right, if you’re against it you’re the bad guys.”

jacquez45

Jim Kirk is not here for your anti-birth-control, anti-choice, pro-death-penalty BS

chandri

James Tiberius Kirk was written and portrayed as a feminist and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.

ellidfics

Yep.  That episode is exactly what you think it is:  pro-birth control, pro-population control, pro-choice, and pro-women’s right to choose.  And yes, Kirk, the supposed playboy of the spaceways, is in favor of all of the above.

It was written and aired in 1969.

It probably couldn’t air today.

THINK ABOUT THAT.

geekygothgirl

Also LMAO at all the sad whiny geek boys who are like “I miss the GOOD OLD DAYS of SCI-FI when it wasn’t all about SOCIAL ISSUES and instead it was just about MEN HAVING FUN IN SPACE. Like Star Trek! Star Trek wouldn’t put up with all this SOCIAL JUSTICE FEMINISM IN SCI FI bullshit!” And meanwhile I’m just over here like “…did you actually watch the show?”

It’s also important to bear in mind that the Original Series had a predominantly female fanbase, and during its initial run, was widely mocked and dismissed by mainstream (i.e., male) science fiction fans as being fake sci-fi for girls. It’s difficult to overstate the influence women had on the franchise in its early days; most of the early Star Trek conventions were organised by and for women, and indeed, those same organisers were primarily responsible for the massive letter-writing campaign that prevented the show from being cancelled after the 1968 season. Without that campaign, the episode pictured in this post would never have been made.

The popular image of James Kirk as a sleazy womaniser is part of a conscious effort to erase that history and render the franchise’s roots palatable to the misogynistic geekboys of the modern SF/F fandom.

fuckyeahsources

For a summary of those points, see “Star Trek’s Underappreciated Feminist History” by Shannon Mizzi, which draws from Patricia Vettel-Becker’s “Space and the Single Girl: Star Trek, Aesthetics, and 1960s Femininity”.

And a gentle reminder that TOS was a Desilu production, which its board of directors voted to cancel after the second pilot due to cost concerns, a vote that Chairman Lucille Ball overruled. There is no Star Trek without Lucille Ball.

Basically you have women to thank for Star Trek. Go suck on that, JJ Abrams.

comtessedebussy

Bringing this back because I recently saw a post from a dudebro complaining about how Star Trek has become all “PC and has an agenda” unlike in the “good old days”

so here is a clip from the “good old days” of Star Trek not having an agenda.

i really love the mario party games that have dk spaces because the purpose of dk spaces is to be the opposite of bowser spaces, a space where something really good may happen but nothing bad will happen, which turns donkey kong himself into this sort of mythical gorilla of great fortune and prosperity who you would really like to meet and who you get really excited for when you do encounter, and when you land on a dk space it’s like “YES, i’m going to meet with donkey kong now and he’s probably going to give me a really nice present, thank you donkey kong, i LOVE donkey kong”, i just really love this interpretation of donkey kong’s character

i like to think this is what encountering bigfoot in real life would be like. it’s REALLY hard to encounter him but if you do he’s gonna play a fun minigame with you and then he’s probably gonna give you a really cool gift and then he’ll leave and it’s literally impossible for anything harmful to happen during this encounter
